In August, 1910, a group of men gathered at the Washington House decided the little town sorely needed a fire company.
Then and there a meeting was held and William H. Titus was elected the first fire chief. The newly formed band of volunteers purchased a hand-drawn chemical truck for $100 from Scotch Plains. Temporary headquarters were set up in Chief Titus’ barn. Four months later Texier's Mill was designated permanent headquarters.
